The wind blew the dark clouds and some people would see it went away happily. Perhaps it will bring better fortune at the other places. Yeah there could be something to think of like moving on and on.

I must say that this month has a special meaning to me, especially when I legally become a husband to a woman that I love so dearly and this could change my life significantly if not entirely. Alhamdulillah its a great story in my life and it went so smoothly.

Another month to go to complete 2009, the most difficult year (yet) in my career. I hope to get more successful in the coming years.
It exactly 12 years and 1 months since the late Grandpa left us, now it's Grandma's turn. I cried silently, remembering all the moments with Grandma. Virtually, she has left us a year ago when she lost her memory (due to sudden fever and her age). I hope I didn't sound rude for this ... but this I feel.

I remembered after Grandpa died, I've always brings her to Grandpa's grave, read the Quran for him, whenever she in needs for that, she always mentioned my name. However when she began to start losing everything, I never feel that happy to see her, because she never see me like the way she call me or see before. She could not even recognize me! I feel irritated to see how my aunties treated her and sometimes makes fun of here. I think they are hurting her, but what I can do?

Ya Allah, ampunkanlah dosanya, janganlah Dikau seksanya, tempatkanlah dia dikalangan orang yang beramal soleh. Sesungguhnya Engkah Maha Pengasih dan Maha Penyayang.

I love you so much Nek Rot. Innalillah ...

(Time of Death: 3:10AM 16 Nov 2009, She was 84 years old)
Its exactly Friday night 12 years ago about 7:10PM, my beloved grandfather, Allahyarham Haji Baijuri Sekah passed away. Until the last breathe in front of me while I hold him so tight in my arms and he left peacefully.

Al Fatihah

-16 OCT 1997-
Yes, baby doll, feel it?
Feel it fine!

Ooh baby, baby...

Give you anything your heart desires
It's my soul intention to have(?) your affection
'Cause you're the one who sets my world on fire
And I want you in my world forever

There ain't no mountain too high
For me to climb it for you baby, no
There ain't no ocean too wide
To ever stop this love of mine

And if you want the moon wrapped up
And brought by there right to your door
I would find a way
I would find a way to get it

I've been the world to you and if that won't do
Then I do something more
I would find a way
I would find a way, baby

Na na na na na na...
Just to make you happy, baby
I would find a way

Take you anywhere you ever dreamed of
There's no limitations if you're my inspiration
'Cause I can do anything if I've got your love
And no one will ever love you better

Show me a star in the sky
And I would steal it for you baby, whoah
There's nothing I wouldn't try
Just to keep you satisfied

And if you want the moon wrapped up
And brought by there right to your door
I would find a way
I would find a way to get it

I've been the world to you and if that won't do
Then I do something more
I would find a way
I would find a way, baby

Na na na na na na...
Just to make you happy, baby
I would find a way

I would find a way to keep you satisfied
I'll supply the love that you need, yeah, yeah
Ooh, I give you something to dream about each night
Baby, I'll make you happy every day, every night
Making my life's dedication to make sure that you look bright

You're my love, you're my inspiration
I'll find a way to keep you satisfied
To cherish your love is my life dedication
Nothing could ever stop this love of mine
Me no wanna fuss and fight, want to do what is right
Me no wanna fuss and fight, want to do what is right
You must understand I'm a natural man
I must do what it takes to cherish the land(?)
Me no wanna fuss and fight, me no wanna fuss and fight
Me no wanna fuss and fight, want to do what is right
Me no wanna fuss and fight, me no wanna fuss and fight
Me no wanna fuss and fight, want to do what is right

And if you want the moon wrapped up
And brought by there right to your door
I would find a way
I would find a way to get it

I've been the world to you and if that won't do
Then I do something more
I would find a way
I would find a way, baby

I'm gonna find a way to hold you
I'm gonna find a way to show you
There ain't nothing that I won't do
Just to make you happy, baby

I'm gonna find a way to please you
Let you know how much I need you
This heart will always be true

At the Future of Web Apps conference Kevin Rose (Digg, Pownce, Wefollow) gave a cool presentation on the top 10 down and dirty ways you can grow your web app. He took the questions he's most often asked and turned it into a very informative talk.

This isn't the typical kind of scalability we cover on this site. There aren't any infrastructure and operations tips. But the reason we care about scalability is to support users and Kevin has a lot of good techniques to help your user base bloom.

Here's a summary of the 10 ways to grow your consumer web application:

1. Ego. Ask does this feature increase the users self-worth or stroke the ego? What emotional and visible awards will a user receive for contributing to your site? Are they gaining reputation, badges, show case what they've done in the community? Sites that have done it well:

Twitter.com followers. Followers turns every single celebrity as spokesperson for your service. Celebrities continually pimp your service in the hopes of getting more followers. It's an amazing self-reinforcing traffic generator. Why do followers work? Twitter communication is one way. It's simple. Followers don't have to be approved and there aren't complicated permission schemes about who can see what. It means something for people to increase their follower account. It becomes a contest to see who can have more. So even spam followers are valuable to users as it helps them win the game.

Digg.com leader boards. Leader Boards show the score for a user activity. In digg it was based on the number of articles submitted. Encourage people to have a competition and do work inside the digg ecosystem. Everyone wants to see their name in lights.

Digg.com highlight users. Users who submitted stories where rewarded by having their name in a larger font and a friending icon put beside their story submission. Users liked this.

2. Simplicity. Simplicity is the key. A lot of people overbuild features. Don't over build features. Release something and see what users are going to do. Pick 2-3 on your site and do them extremely well. Focus on those 2-3 things. Always ask if there's anything you take out from a feature. Make it lighter and cleaner and easy to understand and use.

3. Build and Release. Stop thinking you understand your users. You think users will love this or that and you'll probably be wrong. So don't spend 6 months building features users may not love or will only use 20% of. Learn from what users actually do on your site. Avoid analysis paralysis, especially as you get larger. Decide, build, release, get feedback, iterate.

4. Hack the Press. There are techniques you can use that will get you more publicity.

Invite only system. Get press by creating an invite only system. Have a limited number of invites and seed them with bloggers. Get the buzz going. Give each user a limited number of invites (4 or 5). It gets bloggers talking about your service. The main stream press calls and you say you are not ready. This amps the hype cycle. Make new features login-only, accessible only if you log in but make them visible and marked beta on the site. This increases the number of registered users.

Talk to junior bloggers. On Tech Crunch, for example, find the most junior blogger and pitch them. It's more likely you'll get covered.

Attend parties for events you can't afford. You can go to the after parties for events you can't afford. Figure out who you want to talk to. Follow their twitter accounts and see where they are going.

Have a demo in-hand. People won't understand your great vision without a demo. Bring an iPhone or laptop to show case the demo. Keep the demo short, 30-60 seconds. Say: Hey, I just need 30 seconds of your time, it's really cool, and here's why I think you'll like it. Slant it towards what they do or why they cover.

5. Connect with your community.

Start a podcast. A big driver in the early days of Digg. Influencers will listen and they are the heart of your ecosystem.

Throw a launch party and yearly and quarterly events. Personally invite influencers and their friends. Just have a party at a bar. Throw them around conferences as people are already there.

Engage and interact with your community.

Don't visually punish users. Often users don't understand bad behaviour yet as they think they are just playing they game your system sets up. Walk through the positive behaviours you want to reinforce on the site.

6. Advisors. Have a strong group of advisors. Think about which technical, marketing and other problems you'll have and seek out people to help you. Give them stock compensation. A strong advisory team helps with VCs.

7. Leverage your user base to spread the world.

FarmVille. tells users when other players have helped them and asks the player to repay the favor. This gets players back into the system by using a social obligation hack. They also require having a certain number of friends before you expand your farm. They give away rare prizes.

Wefollow. Tweets hashtags when people follow someone else. This further publicizes the system. They also ask when a new user hits the system if they wanted to be added to the directory, telling the user that X hundred thousand of your closest friends have already added themselves. This is the number one way they get new users.

8. Provide value for third party sites. Wallstreet Journal, for example, puts FriendFeed, Twitter, etc links on every page because they think it adds value to their site. Is there some way you can provide value like that?

9. Analyze your traffic. Install Google analytics, See where people are entering form. Where they are going. Where they are exiting from and how you can improve those pages.

10. The entire picture. Step back and look at the entire picture. Look at users who are creating quality content. Quality content drives more traffic to your site. Traffic going out of your site encourages other sites to add buttons to your site which encourages more users and more traffic into your site. It's a circle of life. Look at how your whole eco system is doing.

When somebody loves you
It's no good unless he loves you all the way
Happy to be near you
When you need someone to cheer you all the way

[Chorus:]
Taller than the tallest tree is
That's how it's got to feel
Deeper than the deep blue sea is
That's how deep it goes if it's real

When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in-between years come what may

[Bridge:]
Who knows where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say
But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure I'm gonna love you all the way all the way

Song by Frank Sinatra

I was browsing the Net for oldies songs such as from Cliff Richards, Elvis and Frank Sinatra for a video presentation project for 09.09.09. Found this song :) . A-a-aaaa it is a beautiful song, at this very stressful times ... giving me hope ...

If it's real ...
If you have ATI Radeon 4870 1 GB video card, you can soft-mod it into ATI FirePro v8700. The princip is simple, it is just forcing the drivers to recognise the card as the V8700. The GPU is identical on V8700 and the 4870. I ordered one 4870, but with 512 MB, It will arrive in 3-4 days, and I will try to soft-mod too
It is a soft-mod, so if you take your card to another PC, reinstall the OS etc. it will be recognized as a 4870, so nothing to worry about if something goes wrong

The results are impressive, here is a benchmark test:
Modded ATI 4870 1 GB into V8700 - 3dsmax - 34.10
Standard ATI 4870 1 GB - 3dsmax- 16.92
It is 100%+ performance boost

The instructions were copied from (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=288801) :
1. Learn how to softmod from this site http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=227800 (the info might seems to be outdated but what we do are basically the same.

2. download rivaturner from http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner

3. if you want to get more info / guides / tutorials on how to use the rivaturner then go to this site: http://www.vaguetech.com/?pageid=rt207 (note this was taken from http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=195029 original post by boogieman)

4. Get a patchscript from http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=275174 , theres more floating around in this forums though. keep in mind theres different patchscripts, like one for winxp 32 bits / 64s / or vista 32bits / vista 64bits.

5. Download the FireGl/FirePro driver that you want your gaming videocard to be softmoded to. http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx click on workstation cards. Select v8700 then you will get a latest driver

6. Don't feel too overwhelmed .. just get rivatruner, patchscript, and firegl/firepro driver - for me its basically

a. find a patchscript for my os (winxp32bits) and my videocard, edit it if you need to (like I did , see my original post and others)

b. go to folder path : C:\Program Files\RivaTuner v2.23\PatchScripts\ATI\SoftFireGL\Unified

c. open the file : SoftFireGL w2k.rts with notepad or other text editing software.

d. copy and paste the patchscript code into it. Save.

c. this time double click the same file. rivaturner dialog will appear, click the dropmenu and select force v8700 then another dialog will ask you where is the driver file, you just help navigate it to where you extracted the firegl/firepro driver, to driver folder, the cx_ thing then .. click ok and pray that it work.

d. if it work, then go to mycomputer rightclick it and select manage, select device manager, click display adapter, click on your videocard then right click again, select update river then you know the rest. after that reboot and make another prayer.

Dikira sudah menjelang ajal, anaknya memangilkan seorang Mudhin (tukang do'a) agar di doakan. Sedang asyik Pak Mudhin berdoa, tiba-tiba muka nenek Ani bertukar warna biru seolah-olah tidak boleh bernafas. Tangannya menggigil.

Mari kita sama-sama membaca suratnya".

Pak Mudhin membaca surat tersebut, yang ternyata berbunyi :

"Mudhin jangan berdiri di situ...! Jangan pijak saluran oksigen aku..!"

Kambing Hitam & Kambing Putih

Seorang gembala sedang menggembalakan biri-birinya yang berbulu hitam dan berbulu putih. Dia kemudian didatangi seorang pemuda lalu bertanya:
Pemuda : "Baguskah ternakan biri-biri engkau. Boleh tak
saya tanya beberapa soalan?"
Gembala : "Oh, boleh saja"
Pemuda : "Berapa jauh biri-biri ni berjalan setiap hari?"
Gembala : "Yang mana, yang putih atau yang hitam?"
Pemuda : "Yang putih"
Gembala :"Ah, yang putih berjalan lebih kurang enam kilometer setiap hari"
Pemuda : "Dan yang hitam?"
Gembala : "Yang hitam pun sama."
Pemuda : "Dan berapa banyak rumput mereka makan setiap hari?"
Gembala : "Yang mana, yang putih atau yang hitam?"
Pemuda : "Yang putih."
Gembala : "Ah, yang putih makan lebih kurang empat kilo rumput setiap hari."
Pemuda : "Dan yang hitam?"
Gembala : "Yang hitam pun sama."
Pemuda : "Dan berapa banyak bulu yang mereka hasilkan setiap tahun?"
Gembala : "Yang mana, yang putih atau yang hitam?"
Pemuda : "Yang putih."
Gembala : "Aaa...menurut perkiraan saya, yang putih menghasilkan sekitar enam kilo bulu setiap tahun kalau mereka dicukur."
Pemuda : "Dan yang hitam?"
Gembala : "Yang hitam pun sama."

Dear Biker,

  • Are you tired of cold starts? Need to raise the throttle everyday to get the cold engine running?
  • Does someone have the same bike as yours and are you tired of losing to him in drag races?
  • Suddenly, the fuel efficiency has reduced after a service?
  • Has the mechanic has screwed up your tuning?
  • Engine gives hiccups when you open the throttle?
  • Or your bike is just missing that smooth acceleration whenever you want?
  • Or your engine overheats even if you did not race too much.

May be the following will help you in tuning your mean machine for optimal power delivery and best fuel economy. This guide aims at tuning the fuel/air screw to give you an optimal air-fuel mixture. An optimal mixture gets maximum performance from your machine.

Getting The Basics

I am assuming that you know driving very well and have completed at least 1000kms on road. If not, then you are too amateur to read this guide.

Every bike has a engine (motor/mill/muscle) and a carburetor (breathing system/heart) ;) – Yeah I know that. My point is, I assume that your engine is in perfect condition. That is, there is no oil leaking from it etc etc.. The next assumption is that your engine is not DEAD. You know where your engine is and where your carb is ;) and you have a screw driver/blunt knife with you. Your machine must have finished at least one service ~500kms or more. Also make sure you do not change the fuel type while tuning i.e. Power, Speed, Extra premium, normal unleaded etc.

This Guide Applies To

All the single cylinder bikes, 2 stroke or 4 stroke having a carburetor. Tachometer is very handy and a must for a newbie or the tuning process will be very slow or painful or imperfect.

Disclaimer: Though whatever I have written here wont do any damage to your machine, finally you must not blame me for whatever happens. I am here to help if anything goes wrong.

So Lets Get Started

Warm the engine nicely. Go get a ride around the town. Speed nicely at least upto half the top speed of the bike. Drive at least for 10-15 minutes so the engine system warms up nicely or you’ll get a bad tune. Do not just leave the engine idle and start with process. I mean it. Ride the bike.

Now that the engine is adequately heated up, you are ready to begin with the process. You can select a place far away from the city or your residential area so that you do not disturb the tired, sick, disgusted, old people or babes (babies) living in your colony. You are likely to be shooed away from them when you are at a critical point. You may choose a place near your girl friend’s house just to impress her! Put the bike in main stand and get hold of your screw driver. That is all you need, together with your eyes, brains and ears.

Searching the fuel/air screw… The above mentioned screws are responsible to adjust the air-fuel ratio which forms ‘food substance’ for your engine. You can relate it to our human body, where proteins, carbs, fats, water etc all are required in appropriate proportions with respect to each other for good strong body.

There is another screw which sets the idle speed of the machine. This screw is not related to pickup or mileage. It just sets the engine rpm at ’’idle’’ run. 2stroke machines have an Air screw and 4 stroke machines have a Fuel screw. I hope you note this VERY well. Air screw is located on the carb away from the engine. [ Engine - Carburettor - Air screw]

Fuel screw is located on the carb but its near the engine. [Engine - Fuel screw - Carburetor]. If the make of your carb is Mikuni (Pulsar, Yamaha, Fiero) the fuel/air screw probably will be of brass (golden colour). If you fully unscrew this screw and take it on your hand, you will see a needle like tip.

Idle screw is closely linked with the throttle cable. Idle screw can be turned by the hand. Screw driver is not essential for it. Finding these screws are very simple. If you still cannot find the air/fuel screw, ask your mechanic or I can help.

Ok now what? Apart from the above difference I gave between Air and Fuel screw, there is one more major difference. Fuel screw turned in (clockwise) gives a lean mixture and turned out (anti-clockwise) gives a rich mixture. Air screw turned in gives a rich mixture and turned out (anti-clockwise) gives a lean mixture. Lean means more air, less fuel. Rich means more fuel, less air. This ends the basics.

Getting Things In Action

Turn the idle settings screw so that rpm reaches about 3000 rpm. Now tune the air/fuel screw to make the mixture leanest as possible. Please refer to the above whether you must turn the screw clockwise or anti clockwise.

As you make the mixture leaner, slowly the engine RPM decreases… Go on doing this until you have put the fuel screw to the leanest possible point. At the same time, ensure that the engine does not stall, by turning the idle-screw.

Tough huh? You’ll get used to it ;)

OK the engine is running and the mixture is lean. If you notice from the engine sound OR if you see the tachometer, the engine RPM will not be steady at this point. Now very slowly start turning the fuel screw anti-clockwise, quarter to 1/8th turn at a time. You will notice that the RPM increases slowly and steadily. Again, do this very very slowly. Also count the total number of turns as you wind out the screw.

You’ll notice that when you have turned it to about 3-4 full revolutions, the engine RPM slowly becomes constant. It is this point that you must stop screwing more. This probably is the optimal setting for your engine.

Further on, try turning the screw even more and more to 5-7 revolutions and you’ll notice that the engine RPM will slowly decrease. When this happens, you are just putting in a too rich mixture in your engine. At this point the engine loses all the fuel efficiency and the mixture is not optimal. Repeat the process about 2-3 times. Count the revolutions each time and get the setting which you feel is correct.

OK the engine is humming perfectly, now what? Decrease the idle setting screw to about 1000rpm in the tachometer. When the engine slows down, just twist the throttle. The response should be crisp and quick. It should not give any hiccups! Try shutting off the engine and restarting. The engine MUST start in a single kick or self with out giving throttle. If this happens, the setting is ok. Now get a ride and you’ll notice the difference for good or bad :)

You’ll immediately notice change in the engine sound and the throttle response. Your engine can become more smooth or harsh. Another important point is, Ride and Feel. Always take a ride and get the feel of the bike in each gears, check the response and the engine sound. You’ll quickly come to know once you get the feel of the bike that you want to make the mixture rich or lean.

It may take a few iterations before you fix a setting as permanent. Try calculating the mileage per liter and tally it with your setting and the feeling you get.

Troubleshooting

Here are some symptoms and their quick solutions:

  • Engine dies while tuning.
Try the process all over again. This time set the idle screw higher/faster.
  • Engine gives hiccups while driving, specially while in higher gears.
May be the mixture is too lean. Try again.
  • Engine heats up.
The mixture is too lean or too rich. Try again.
  • Whenever I race up the engine, the rpm increases fast but very slowly comes down to idle.
The mixture is not optimal, probably towards leaner side. Try again.
  • Too much low end torque and the engine sound is very beaty/thumpy.
You’ll face a low mileage surely, when you drive below 40kmphr. You have tuned on the higher/richer side.

The dream of SLI on a non-nVidia chipset has been the dream of many. It was finally realized for the Core i7 and Core i5 (X58 and P55) when nVidia and Intel came into a licensing agreement.

But that left everyone else on the Intel side of the market out in the cold unless they were lucky (or unlucky) enough to have a board with an NF200 bridge.

Well there is hope for all the others out there. It looks like someone over at Expreview found a way around this through software. They were able to use this software in Directory Services Restore Mode to enable SLI on both an X38 and a P45 chipset.

The details of the software have not been made public yet and there is an issue with enabling SLI in normal mode but according to Expreview these will be taken care of soon.

Hope to see it'll work on my Intel X48 soon!

RIP Michael Jackson
While I struggle to service my sportbike front-brake pair yesterday, one small scorpion caught my attention and I manage to catch it using a small empty tin can.

It was about half of my palm size. After I left it in the tin, I cleaned myself because tonite there will gonna be a FnF session at iLeQ-iLeQ Cafe.

PIC: Pic apitt performing at iLeQ-iLeQ Cafe last night

Back home by 1 AM. Gosh ... it have been quite some times I didn't hangout with my bike fellows. Some of the had new bikes and new stories. The night was cloudy ... got only one star.

After I parked my bike, I remembered the scorpion I caught that evening. I thought it would be interesting to keep the scorpion for a day because I haven't seen such creature - so alive, and aggressive. I moved the scorpion into a plastic container, create a breather hole and leave it on my computer table in my room. I planned tomorrow to study and feed the creature.

So ............. tomorrow the first thing that came out of my head was my fiance hehehe ... then when I checked my room, the scorpion was GONE! There's still quite some space for the scorpion to sneak out from the container.

So immediately I NEED TO FIND that creature; I do not know if someone or myself being stung by such creature. The good thing is I have motivation to clean my room....

but I can't find it! BAD NEWS!

I tried to clean and search the kitchen, guestroom, bathroom and main room ..... until what I found a larger SCORPION which I do not know how or when did it hide there.

Aihhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I was like not to believe it, I do not want to think about it but it is .... if that is ALLAH SWT really want to show me what I need to know. Enough 1 sec

I quickly took a bath. Just be strong
Beku ku di sini,
Menantimu lelah sudah perjalanan ku ini,
Takkan mampu ku berdiri lagi,
Hampa semua tak terasa lagi.

(tanpa mu) jatuh ku ke jurang gelap tak berjiwa lagi,
(hadir mu) kehidupanku kusandarkan cintaku

Layu ku di sini,
Menunggu mu mekarkan semua bunga cintaku,
Takkan mampu ku berkembang lagi,
Musim ini tak mampu menghadirkan mentari.

Kau di mana,
Kan ku cari,
Kan ku dapat hangatmu,
Lekaslah cairkan dingin ku.

Di dalam diriku ini,
Hanya ada satu cinta,
Yang membuat ku bahagia,
Bersama mu.

Layu ku di sini,
Menunggu mu mekarkan semua bunga cintaku,
Takkan mampu ku berkembang lagi,

Kau di mana,
Kan ku cari,
Kan ku dapat hangatmu,

A number of times in recent weeks a bright, unblinking light has appeared in the night sky of the nation's capital: a spaceship. Longer than a football field, weighing 654,000 pounds, the spaceship moved swiftly across the heavens and vanished.

Fortunately, it was one of ours.

The international space station is by far the largest spacecraft ever built by earthlings. Circling the Earth every 90 minutes, it often passes over North America and is visible from the ground when night has fallen but the station, up high, is still bathed in sunlight.

After more than a decade of construction, it is nearing completion and finally has a full crew of six astronauts. The last components should be installed by the end of next year.

And then?

"In the first quarter of 2016, we'll prep and de-orbit the spacecraft," says NASA's space station program manager, Michael T. Suffredini.

That's a polite way of saying that NASA will make the space station fall back into the atmosphere, where it will turn into a fireball and then crash into the Pacific Ocean. It'll be a controlled reentry, to ensure that it doesn't take out a major city. But it'll be destroyed as surely as a Lego palace obliterated by the sweeping arm of a suddenly bored kid.

This, at least, is NASA's plan, pending a change in policy. There's no long-term funding on the books for international space station operations beyond 2015.

Suffredini raised some eyebrows when, at a public hearing last month, he declared flatly that the plan is to de-orbit the station in 2016. He addressed his comments to a panel chaired by former aerospace executive Norman Augustine that is charged by the Obama administration with reviewing the entire human spaceflight program. Everything is on the table -- missions, goals, rocket design. And right there in the mix is this big, fancy space laboratory circling the Earth from 220 miles up.

The cost of the station is both a liability and, paradoxically, a virtue. A figure commonly associated with the ISS is that it will ultimately cost the United States and its international partners about $100 billion. That may add to the political pressure to keep the space laboratory intact and in orbit rather than seeing it plunging back to Earth so soon after completion.

"If we've spent a hundred billion dollars, I don't think we want to shut it down in 2015," Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) told Augustine's committee.

Suffredini agrees.

"My opinion is it would be a travesty to de-orbit this thing," he said. "If we get rid of this darned thing in 2015, we're going to cede our leadership in human exploration."

NASA has a strategy built on President George W. Bush's Vision for Space Exploration, of which a return to the moon is the next great leap. The space station's defenders say it can provide essential research on long-duration spaceflight.

Suffredini argues that any long-term exploration of the universe requires an initial step of learning how to survive in space. The best place to do that is close to the Earth, he said. The space station sticks to low Earth orbit. "It's also teaching us how to work together as a world, as a planet," he said.

Although there is no official lobbying going on to extend the mission, NASA is conducting a thorough review of the station to see what it would take to certify it as operational through the late 2020s, Suffredini said. Even in the vacuum of space, things break down, get old, wear out.

Critics have long derided the orbiting laboratory as a boondoggle. Originally called Space Station Freedom during the Reagan years, it became the international space station when the United States lured Russia into a partnership in 1993, agreeing to alter the orbit of the station to make it pass over the Russian-run space complex in Kazakhstan. That agreement helped keep Russian scientists and engineers employed at a time when the United States feared they would become rogue agents in a chaotic world.

The rap on the space station has always been that it was built primarily to give the space shuttle somewhere to go. Now, with the shuttle being retired at the end of 2010, the station is on the spot. U.S. astronauts will be able to reach the station only by getting rides on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft.

The station has repeatedly been hit with budget cuts and design modifications. Much of its science funding was cut earlier this decade. A centrifuge had been planned as a crucial scientific component of the station, but it didn't survive the budget axe. Until the end of May, the station had a crew of three, barely enough for housekeeping.

NASA officials say there will be important science performed on the station in the years ahead. The last flight of the space shuttle will install on the station a physics experiment called the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, which will search for dark matter and antimatter.

But a prominent critic of human spaceflight, physicist Robert L. Park of the University of Maryland, said putting astronauts on the space station is akin to "flagpole-sitting." He argues that the station fundamentally lacks a mission.

Gentler criticism comes from David Leckrone, senior project scientist for the Hubble Space Telescope, who thinks the station is underutilized. He fears that NASA measures the station's value solely in terms of how it might advance the long-term "Exploration" agenda of returning to the moon, with basic science research as an afterthought.

"Whether it was a great investment or not to begin with, having made that investment, I think it's imperative for the United States to extract value -- real, honest-to-God scientific value -- out of that investment," Leckrone said.

Park has a different suggestion: "Give it to China. Let them support the damn thing."

Internationalized Domain Names (IDN), an Internet Domain name made up of non-ASCII characters, may be a rare sight but as Malaysians we should not be left behind the availability of technologies. Last week, the .my Domain Registry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions (SKMM) announced in the Forum on Internationalized Domain Name that they will be working on a 1-year trial for Jawi, Chinese and Tamil script-based IDN. This means that users will now have more options when registering for a .my domain name when it is successfully implemented in early 2011. By then, Malaysia won't be only known as a multiracial country whereby its residents are multilingual; but our domain names will be too.

"The capability to support Jawi, Chinese and Tamil will certainly help promote our larger objectives, which is to bring domain name technologies closer to the people of Malaysia and give them the option to appeal more directly to their target Internet audiences using a more ‘native' touch," -- Puan Shariya Haniz Zulkifli, Director of .my DOMAIN REGISTRY

During the trial period, registrations will be accepted through a .my Domain Registry IDN test bed system (.idn.my) which will be removed before the official launch. Using the forum, the SKMM hopes to discuss the problems that may arise with using IDN locally. You can email idn@domainregistry.my for further enquiries.

It began last few weeks after I returned from KL, when my laptop crashed when it did some 3D. The frequency become more and more often, so last week I abandoned it at home for at least 3 days. It's really too hot when idling.

I am talking about Joybook S73G that come with Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 and ATI Radeon Mobility X1600. Its a powerful combination but a pair of heat pipes that joined them NOT COOL at all.

Why did they design the cooler with its processor and GPU sharing the same heat sink/cooler. Either one or both components will be shortlived. 2 years old, enough?

Now, it looks like the GPU (Ati Radeon Mobility X1600) damaged and the screen has artifacts or random white grain shown on the screen at idle. As long as you load a 3D program, the driver will be restarted. Sometimes it will be just a pause or a blink. Worth case = Application CRASH and reboot. Look honey, snow on the window!

Nichlateoh still on vacation at Sipadan Island. When he's back on 11 July then I'll be able to get the 3M thermal conductive pad from him to reduce the heat.

Too late cause its already damaged. At least to hold it for a few months?

I wish to grab a laptop that suits my need. At least 2Ghz dual core processor with VT, good GPU and hi-res monitor for my multimedia jobs. The rest can be upgraded.

Really need a good laptop. My desktop is a nuclear power reactor. Its super powerful and HOT and power hungry. At full load, may reach 700+Watts. Normal usage floats around 300-400Watts. Not good for electric bill.

MSI, Asus or Dell. Hmm it won't be cheap but need to hold on. Wait after the big Day.

Hmm tough year eh.

Already 2AM lets get some zzz

One Markup Language to rule them all … and in the darkness bind them.

The Web is a living, evolving beast, and it seems certain that the future will hold more interaction with our everyday activities than it did in the past.

The mechanics for these interactions to happen are falling in place virtually every day, but a new standard is on the horizon to tie these ends together and make our lives - and the lives of browser makers - more fluid and transparent with its support

.

That standard is HTML 5, the latest in a series of markup languages that rule the world wide web with a velvet glove. The first draft of HTML 5 appeared on January 22, 2008, and it has been under revision ever since.

But while it may be a wonderful time for the propeller-heads to celebrate a new standard for all things online, how does it help the average computer user?

Since a detailed discussion of changes would probably exceed both the space here and the patience of the average curious user, we will focus on some of the major changes, and how that will make our online experience better. Ben Galbraith, co-director of developer tools at Mozilla, agrees as he states:

“HTML 5 features like Canvas, local storage, and Web Workers let us do more in the browser than ever before,”

One of the most exciting changes for the end user is the encapsulation of Canvas within the language.

Canvas gives web designers a rich API to use for 2d drawing. No longer confined to images and boxes, the web artist can use the entire page as an expression of content and design rich interfaces that previously were practical only with third party add ons such as Flash and Silverlight.

It could be argued that Canvas may lessen our dependence on the plugins, at least in name.
For example, Google has developed the Google bridge which maps Canvas to both Silverlight and Flash. In doing so, however, it relegates the plugins to a much lower chain in the overall visibility to the end user, something that both Adobe and Microsoft no doubt wish to maintain, if indeed they are even present in future incarnations of HTML5 browsers. It could be conjectured that this could be one of the reasons that Microsoft, while endorsing and supporting HTML 5 in general, has not in the past supported Canvas as part of the standard.

Another aspect f the evolving HTML 5 standard is the inclusion of local storage.

While our dependence on being interconnected will no doubt continue to grow, having a connection at all times, is not always possible. For this reason, the local storage api can be used to allow a web application to function until connectivity is restored. Indeed, with the spread of web applications, this storage, in its current incarnation referred to as DOM storage, is a requirement now and has been broken out of its HTML5 roots in order to streamline its real world implementation.

Modern browsers are starting to implement this HTML5 feature, and the current model of text based key and value storage is expected to grow into a universal structured data storage as the standard matures. This would greatly expand the usefulness of web applications, and in this author’s opinion it could single handedly make the current model of patching desktop programs obsolete as it would automatically update itself as a connection was restored. Exciting indeed.

HTML 5 also supports Drag and Drop.

This could be used to allow the user to drag files from the web browser to their local storage (or personal online storage, as such as the case may be) for long term keeping. it could also be used to trash files and launching applications, such as video programs. This aspect, while bringing a common user interface to the standard, really seems to bring a browser based operating system a bit closer to reality.

I know that there are naysayers whenever a browser based OS is mentioned, but the Google Chrome OS is under development. However, that is another discussion.

Any discussion on HTML 5 and its advantages would need to include at least a mention of Cross-Document Messaging.

Part of the standard that is already present in the latest browsers (in limited form), Cross-Document Messaging allows for the inclusion of multiple web source objects in a single fluid user page. Imagine gadgets and iFrame objects that are in communication with the rest of the functioning page directly through the browser, not with a backend requirement. This allows web developers greater flexibility in incorporating web components into their design, and even allows the potential of greater end user customization.

While there is much more to the HTML 5 discussion, the last aspect we will discuss at this time is the concept of Web Workers.

This allows for browser based activities to offload some of the processing overhead to background activities, allowing for smoother operation and a better user experience.

HTML 5 is mapping our way into the future, but its final draft is not complete yet. One school of thought puts it W3C Candidate Recommendation stage around 2012, some even later. But the important thing to note is that the standard will be, and is being, implemented in stages. Safari, Internet Explorer 8, and Firefox 3.5 have some of the standard already implemented, with more being planned in future releases.

Microsoft’s hesitation to support some of the APIs (notably Canvas and Web Workers) is probably not going to be a factor this stage of the game, especially since Google and a few other web heavyweights are throwing strong support on those same key features.

The one thing that does seem to be certain is that HTML 5, in its piecemeal appearance on the web, is going to be the de facto standard long before it is officially released. And that fact is already serving the end users with a better online experience today as well as tomorrow.

Singer Donna Summer, also sung by Kris Allen (American Idol 8)
An alarming first call woke me up early this morning and its from my sister just to inform that Michael Jackson has died. Suddenly I began to feel so sad and shocked. Actually I am a great fan to the legendary singer since childhood and school.

I rushed to the office to see the news on the Internet to confirm this.

MICHAEL Jackson has died after suffering what is believed to have been a heart attack in Los Angeles.

The singer, 50, was pronounced dead soon after he arrived at an LA hospital.

The LA Coroner has confirmed his death.

Lieutenant Fred Corral told CNN Jackson was pronounced dead at 2:26pm (7.26am) local time after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

"I can tell you at this time that we were notified by West Los Angeles Police Department detectives that Mr Jackson was transported ... to the hospital, and upon admitting, he was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:26 this afternoon," Corral told CNN.

Corral said an autopsy would "most likely" be carried out tomorrow but would not speculate on the exact cause of death.

"Everything is still ongoing. We will be responding to the hospital to move Mr Jackson to our facility where he will be examined to determine the cause of death," Corral said.

"At that point, as I said, there's no further medical history until we get and review the medical records."

Jackson, who had been preparing for his comeback tour, was rushed to the UCLA Medical Centre shortly before 12.30pm local time.

To all of us at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, he was also a trusted and passionate partner, who was very proud of our accomplishments. He will be dearly missed. We wish his children and entire family our deepest condolences."

Five of Jackson's solo albums – "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the epic "Thriller." Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

I listened to all his songs, bought his cassette albums and have tried to collect all of his concert videos because I just love to see his moves and energy.

Michael is a true iconic performer, very original most talented megastar.

Rest in peace Jacko. Amin.

I've never been
The one to raise my hand
That was not me
and now that's who I am
Because of you
I am standing tall

My heart is full
of endless gratitude
You were the one
The one to guide me through
Now I can see
And I believe
It's only just beginning

This is what we dream about
But the only question with me now
Is do I make you proud
Stronger than I've ever been now
Never been afraid of standing out
Do I make you proud

Everybody needs to rise up
Everybody needs to be loved
To be loved

I recently downloaded a wordpress theme for one of my sites which has a very solid Google page rank of 4, with hundreds of inbound links, and ranks in the top page for a lot of nice search terms. Unfortunately the blog author encrypted some php code that was then executed through eval(), these links dillute the value of my domain, and make it tough for me to sell links on the page. I found the code at the bottom of this article helpful in decoding the following:

Mixing is with some "echo"s, copy and paste the output into another text file, result will be available using the following

<,?,php
echo "\nDECODE nested eval(gzinflate()) from Taree Internet \n\n";
echo "1. Reading coded.txt\n";
$fp1 = fopen ('coded.txt', "r");
$contents = fread ($fp1, filesize ('coded.txt'));
fclose($fp1);
echo "2. Decoding\n";
while (preg_match("/eval\(gzinflate/",$contents)) {
$contents=preg_replace("/<\?|\?>/", "", $contents); eval(preg_replace("/eval/", "\$contents=", $contents)); } echo "3. Writing decoded.txt\n"; $fp2 = fopen("decoded.txt","w"); fwrite($fp2, trim($contents)); fclose($fp2);

Voila!!!!

Successfully installed 2 x CCFL and inverter inside the PC. So, it will be a lot easier to manage the cable in the dark. Not just just showing off the inside components.
The software mega-giants Microsoft announced a change in policy of their Windows Live Messenger service, in a small blog post regarding the future of the instant messaging client. Access to the service in Cuba, Syria, Iran, Sudan and North Korea is now prohibited, and if a user in one of these countries does attempt to sign into the service they should receive the following error message:

"810003c1: We were unable to sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service."

Of course, as you can imagine, there are already work-arounds in place for people to get through and log in - either by using a 3rd party client or simply setting a new location in your Windows Live account area (changing it to any authorised region will allow you to sign in once again).

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the company has discontinued Messenger services to certain countries due to United States sanctions.

PSU: Gaygaybyte Odin GT 800Watt at 680.98 Watt (85% efficiency)

Note that 12VA3 & 12VA4 ialah power draw for Gainward 4870X2 GLS = 174.08W + 281.12W = 455.2Watt! That GPU is really a power sucker.

Max current for 12VA3 and 12VA4 is 25 Ampere.

Before the cable management: 12VA4 = 29.1 Ampere = Overload
After cable management: 12VA4 = 22.48 Ampere = Safe

So do I need need 1000W PSU? Urghhhh

For those dreaming that the Star Trek technology of cloaking will one day become reality, they can take note of the steady progress that real-world cloaking technology has been making. The goal of cloaking research is to find ways to redirect light around a shape, from all directions, in essence making it so the shape disappears to the naked eye. Scientists have had success working with nanoscale objects using special lenses.

The new cloaking device developed at Purdue Unviersity is cheaper as it does not rely on exotic materials. Composed of gold films and glass, it can also cloak much bigger objects and cloaks most wavelengths of light. It is built using a specialized waveguide, a type of optical instrument found in fiber optics. (Source: Purdue University)

Cloaking science or "transformation optics" as its more formally called has until now relied on exotic "metamaterials" to redirect light. However, a breakthrough from Purdue University has created a "tapered optical waveguide" that accomplishes the same behavior at a lower cost and without using exotic compounds.

The new cloak is not only cheaper, it also performs better -- it can cloak an area of up to 100 times the wavelengths of a laser, while previous designs only managed a few times the wavelengths. Additionally, where metamaterials could only cloak part of the spectrum, this design can cloak light from a variety of wavelengths.

Vladimir Shalaev, Purdue University's Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, used it to cloak objects up to 50 microns -- the size of a human hair. The cloak consisted of two thin gold layers -- one flat, on bottom, and another on top of the cloaked object. The top layer was curved to act as a "hyperlense" an optical instrument with extraordinary capabilities.

Professor Shalaev describes the breakthrough, stating, "All previous attempts at optical cloaking have involved very complicated nanofabrication of metamaterials containing many elements, which makes it very difficult to cloak large objects. Here, we showed that if a waveguide is tapered properly it acts like a sophisticated nanostructured material. Instead of being reflected as normally would happen, the light flows around the object and shows up on the other side, like water flowing around a stone."

Hyperlenses, like this superb new one from Purdue, promise to revolutionize many fields of optics. Where typical materials bend light -- a phenomenon known as refraction -- they keep its original direct with respect to a perpendicular line from the surface. Hyperlenses, however, can actually have an index of refraction of less than 0, allowing the light to reverse direction. Cloaking devices take advantage of this behavior to curve light around objects.

The lenses could revolutionize optical computing, create super-microscopes able to image DNA, cloak objects, and much more.

The new work raises hopes of large-scale cloaks (think Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak), as it enables one device to cloak many wavelengths, unlike past work which would have necessitated many devices. There has been no derived theoretical size limit for objects cloaked, so large scale cloaking may be possible as cloaking devices are refined.

The research appears in the May 29 edition of the journal Physical Review Letters.

The paper was co-authored by other researchers on the project -- Igor I. Smolyaninov, a principal electronic engineer at BAE Systems in Washington, D.C.; Vera N. Smolyaninova, an assistant professor of physics at Towson University in Maryland; Alexander Kildishev, a principal research scientist at Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center. BAE fabricated the device to cloak the objects, based on the Purdue team's theoretical work.

We introduce Cibai a generic static analyzer based on abstract interpretation for the modular analysis and verification of Java classes. We present the abstract semantics and the underlying abstract domain, a combination of an aliasing analysis and octagons.

We discuss some implementation issues, and we compare Cibai with similar tools, showing how Cibai achieves a higher level of automation and precision while having comparable performances.
